DSIP dosage

DSIP is a nine-amino-acid peptide first isolated from rabbits in the 1970s. Human sleep trials from the 1980s and 90s gave about 25 nmol/kg intravenously (roughly 1.5 mg for a 70 kg adult) and found weak, inconsistent effects. Community use is 100 to 300 mcg subcutaneously an hour before bed, a tenth of the trial dose. Expect subtle changes at best.

25 nmol/kg IV (about 1.5 mg at 70 kg)per dose

Basis: clinical trial (Bes et al. 1992, Neuropsychobiology, 16 chronic insomnia patients, double-blind, 3 afternoon doses). higher sleep efficiency and shorter latency, but the authors judged the effect weak and not of major benefit

DSIP dose to units chart

5 mg vial + 2 mL bacteriostatic water = 2.5 mg/mL (25 mcg per unit on a U-100 insulin syringe). 5 mg + 2 mL = 2.5 mg/mL, so 250 mcg = 0.1 mL = 10 units, 100 mcg = 4 units and 300 mcg = 12 units. One vial is 20 doses at 250 mcg.

Side effects

Before you start. The human trials are small, decades old, intravenous and mostly negative; a leading sleep researcher called DSIP a flop as a sleep drug. The subcutaneous community dose has never been tested. No receptor for DSIP has been identified. Not medical advice. Talk to a clinician and start low.

DSIP dosage questions

How much DSIP should I take for sleep?

Community use is 100 to 300 mcg subcutaneously 30 to 60 minutes before bed. The published trials used about 1.5 mg intravenously and still found only weak effects, so do not expect the small dose to knock you out. Start at 100 mcg.

How many units is 100 mcg of DSIP?

At 2.5 mg/mL (5 mg in 2 mL) 100 mcg is 4 units and 250 mcg is 10 units. With 1 mL of water, 100 mcg is 2 units, which is hard to read, so use 2 mL.

Does DSIP actually work?

The best controlled trial (16 insomnia patients, 1992) found slightly better sleep efficiency but concluded short-term DSIP was unlikely to be of major benefit. Users report calmer sleep onset and more dreams. Treat it as a mild experiment, not a sleep drug.

When should I inject DSIP?

Most people inject 30 to 60 minutes before bed. The trials gave it in the afternoon and still measured night sleep, so timing may matter less than people assume.
