Epitalon dosage
Epitalon is a four-amino-acid synthetic version of the pineal extract epithalamin. The human data is Russian and uses the extract, given as 10 mg intramuscular courses to elderly cardiac patients over years. Community protocols copy the number: 5 to 10 mg a day, subcutaneous, for 10 to 20 days, once or twice a year. There is no dose-finding study in people and no Western trial.
Basis: published study (Korkushko, Khavinson et al. 2011, Bull Exp Biol Med; epithalamin extract, intramuscular, 6 courses over 3 years, 39 vs 40 patients). every 3 days within a course, as reported in secondary summaries of the Khavinson protocols; the extract is not identical to synthetic epitalon
- How often
- once daily during a course
- When
- evening is common because of the melatonin link; the Russian courses were daytime clinic injections
- How long
- 10 to 20 days, then off for 4 to 6 months; 1 to 3 courses a year
- Route
- subcutaneous (community) or intramuscular (Russian studies)
- Storage
- lyophilized: fridge or freezer; reconstituted: fridge, use within 4 weeks (commonly reported)
Dose ranges by source
| Range | Per | Basis | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 mg per injection, courses of 5 injections | injection | published study (Korkushko, Khavinson et al. 2011, Bull Exp Biol Med; epithalamin extract, intramuscular, 6 courses over 3 years, 39 vs 40 patients) | every 3 days within a course, as reported in secondary summaries of the Khavinson protocols; the extract is not identical to synthetic epitalon |
| 5 mg to 10 mg per day | day | commonly reported | 10 to 20 days, repeated 1 to 2 times a year; 1 to 5 mg daily is the conservative variant |
Epitalon dose to units chart
50 mg vial + 2.5 mL bacteriostatic water = 20 mg/mL (200 mcg per unit on a U-100 insulin syringe). 50 mg + 2.5 mL = 20 mg/mL, so 10 mg = 0.5 mL = 50 units and 5 mg = 25 units. A 50 mg vial is one 5-day course at 10 mg or a 10-day course at 5 mg. A 10 mg vial + 1 mL gives the same 10 mg/mL math per unit doubled: 5 mg = 50 units.
| Dose | mL | Units (U-100) | Doses per vial |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 mg | 0.25 | 25 | 10 |
| 10 mg | 0.5 | 50 | 5 |

Epitalon dosage questions
What is the epitalon dosage protocol?
The common protocol is 5 to 10 mg a day subcutaneously for 10 to 20 days, run once or twice a year. The Russian extract studies used 10 mg intramuscular injections in short courses repeated over years. Nothing in people compares doses.
How many units is 10 mg of epitalon?
At 20 mg/mL (50 mg in 2.5 mL) 10 mg is 50 units. At 10 mg/mL (10 mg in 1 mL or 20 mg in 2 mL) 10 mg is a full 100 units. Pick the water volume that keeps the draw under 50 units.
How often can you cycle epitalon?
Community practice is one 10 to 20 day course every 4 to 6 months, so 2 or 3 a year. The 2011 Russian study gave 6 courses over 3 years. Nobody has tested continuous use.
Is epitalon the same as epithalamin?
No. Epithalamin is a pineal gland extract used in the Russian clinical work. Epitalon is the synthetic tetrapeptide modeled on it. The human mortality and melatonin data is for the extract, which is why community dosing is an extrapolation.
